meeting Katherine Holabird

I have been a fan of Katharine Holabird, the author of the Angelina Ballerina, since I received her first book as a gift when I was 5. Ever since then I have been hooked on the little dancing mouse. My mom still buys me every new book that comes out and we enjoy reading them together. This weekend I had the opportunity to meet Ms. Katharine in person at the Festival of Books. James and I got there 1.5 hours early just to make sure they wouldn't change the schedule on us at the last second. I had her sign 6 of my first edition books while James was my press photographer. It was a day I will never forget.

Orange

I'm always on the look out for colorful things. Whether it's yarn or the color of the sky, I am always observant about colors. This week, right next to my office, the city people painted this manhole orange. I like to think of tiny orange elves living underneath in the sewers, running around and knitting to their hearts content. Have you ever seen a manhole this bright before? What's living in your sewers?

Design IQ

I found this quiz online that rates your Design IQ. Taking the test made me really nervous! Like maybe I am not really ready for graduate school? WELL, I will let you know friends that yours truely scored 100%. Looks like I'm in the clear to be a designer. Thank goodness... I was worried there for a sec. Try it out for yourself! Click here.

Stash Reduction Winner!

Wednesday, April 11, 2007

Have you heard of Sheila? From the blog Sheila loves to knit? Well apparently this lady can't resist buying yarn (like me) and has decided to take matters into her own hands. She has decided to hold a monthly "stash reduction" raffle where you can enter to win some of the yarn she is giving away to random strangers. I happen to be one of those random strangers that won!! I will be receiving two skeins of 100% shetland wool. (On the left in the photo.) Thanks Sheila!!!

Easter Weekend

Happy Easter!

Our Easter weekend was a stressful blur. It started off early Friday morning when my dad and I left for the flower mart at 4am, in charge of purchasing $400 worth of flowers for the church flower guild. We barely made it to the church on time to drop off the 10 buckets of flowers before we had to turn around and pick up my mom in Beverly Hills. That was a whole other story that I don't want to get into, but I can say she is at home and doing great. The rest of the weekend was a complete blur and I don't remember much from it, other than I made these Easter eggs. I tried out Martha Stewart's technique of wrapping the egg in an old silk tie (I used an old silk scarf my mom was throwing out) and I boiled the egg with a little vinegar in the water. Didn't it turn out so pretty? The pattern 100% transfered to the egg. I will definitely do more of these eggs next year!!
